Chapter 1: Chapter Name
The rain poured outside as I put my golden hair into a ponytail to start the day at school. The dark clouds hovered over the house as I packed my bag ready to start the day.
"How dare you!" cried my mother shrilly.
"Oh, so it's a bad thing?" replied my father.
"How could you? Think of Heaven."
"That's it I'm going to work."
My father ran out the door and slammed it. He and mother must've had another fight. I walked into my mother's room. She cried on her bed.
"Go catch the bus," she ordered.
I nodded and out the door I was. I waited outside in the rain as cars flew down the main road. My bus finally came and I got on and sat in the back. I grabbed my ipod and pluged in headphones. I listened to music the whole way to school.
When we pulled up to the school the clouds only got darker and the rain poured harder. Now big drums of thunder went off with the brightness ;of lightning. A bolt struck next to our bus and everyone screamed. The heats flew threw the crack of the windows. We ran off the bus as fast as we could and ran for the school. They let us in and we ran. I ran down the hall and turned where the middle school was. When I reached the set of doors in front of the middle school I walked to my locker. My friend Morgan Smith was waiting there for me. She was with Miranda Ship and Julie Darling. I told them everything that had just happened.
"Are you okay?" asked Morgan.
"Yeah," I lied because I didn't care what just happened.
"Did your parents fight again?" asked Miranda.
"Yeah, but today was different he ran out and my mom wouldn't tell me what happened."
They all looked confused. My parents fought all the time. The bell went off and they went to their lockers. I reluctantly went to homeroom. In our homeroom we had assigned seats and I sat next to my crush Chris Lawerence. I sat down and tried to hide the fact I was upset. It was easier to hide when others were around but almost impossible when I was alone.
"Are you okay?" asked Chris.
"Yeah," I replied.
"I heard what you said at your locker because mine is next to yours."
"Crap," I muttered.
Then I turned and glared out the window at the rain. I felt like crying because I had a feeling something bad would happen. My father was abusive. He had beat me and my mother for months. Sometimes he would starve us. Then I remembered he had the day off today. Where would he go? What would he do?
"Heaven?" called a voice.
I jumped and gasped. I thought my dad was about to beat me but he wasn't there. It was Chris.
"Um, are you okay? You zoned out when I tried to tell you something," he said.
"It's okay, but what was the fight about?"
"I don't know."
"I'm sorry, Heaven."
"It's fine, Chris."
The bell went off, then announcements, finally the pledge. We sat in our seats and talked until it was time to go to special. I walked to our boring music class. This was the only special where I didn't sit next to Chris. I sat next to Austin Goad, Justin Jays, and Micheal Horan. I gazed around the room and noticed Chris staring at me. I tried not to make eye contact but ignore the people next to me. I gazed out the window. The clouds haven't gotten any lighter and the clouds still cried as the thunder and lightning appeared. I felt two fingers on my arm, then it began to sting. I turned and saw Micheal who just flung his rubberband against my skin. I looked at him and he looked at me. He was really pale and had dark hair and brown eyes. Then he poked my arm where he hit me with the rubber band. Then he smiled. I tried to smile but felt the saddness fill me and frolick through my veins. I wasn't sure if he bought it or not.
"You have another mark on your face," said Micheal.
"Uh, no I don't," I lied, my father had took a knife and cut under my eye.
"Yeah, under your eye. What's the story this time?" asked Austin.
"I uh," I didn't know what to say.
"You what?" asked Justin.
"I was holding my cat and she scratched me," I lied and hoped they would believe it.
They looked at each other and before they could say anything the teacher came in. From here on the day was normal until I got to reinforcement. We had reinforcement because of buget cuts in the school. I sat next to a boy named Dylan Ally. He was very quiet and kept to himself even though he was popular. I started the worksheet we were given when the phone in the classroom went off. My reinforcement teacher Mrs. Miller who was also the math teacher answered.
"Heaven, can you go down to the office quickly," she said looking devastated.
I got up confused as to what had just happened. I walked down the hall and went to the office. A police officer stood there. I timidly walked in.
"Heaven, will you close the door? You aren't in trouble so don't worry," she said.
I closed the door and sat down on the edge of the chair.
"I'm very sorry," said the officer, "But it seems your entire family has been murdered. We just got a call and we came to you to make sure your alright. Your father was seen committing the crime and he confessed. You will be living with his girlfriend in Spring Hollow. One of the students will help you to the bus. You have a neighbor in your grade and we will call him down right now to see if he's okay with that. You may go back to class. I'm very sorry for your lose."
I started crying. I got up and almost ran back to class. I grabbed tissues and slammed myself down in the seat. I felt an arm around me and I tried to shake it off.
"What happened?" asked Josh Bubble.
I wouldn't reply. I didn't want to talk to anyone. I just wanted to go home. I just wanted to die. The feeling was awful and I couldn't help but wonder. How did he kill them all so fast? Why did he kill them? How is this physically possible? Class was finally over. I had two more periods left though. English and 9th period. English dragged on and people wouldn't stop asking what happened. I told Miranda because she was one of my closest friends. She said she felt sorry for me and that was the end of that. It was ninth period. Miranda told Morgan so I didn't have to say it again. I trudged to my homeroom. I sat in my assigned seat and started my homework. Chris came in and sat next to me.
"I'm so sorry, Heaven," he said, "I will take you to the bus and take you home. You live right next to me now."
I looked up in shock. I didn't know what to say. I was in love with him and now I get to live next to him. I guess there is a silver linning in a gray cloud.
"Are you okay?"
"I would be if everyone would stop asking me what happened," I replied.
Ninth period flew by. I went to my locker and packed my bag. Morgan came and checked on me and I told her everything. She seemed happy for me but then she had to go and so did I. Chris and I walked to bus number 10. I found an empty seat in the back and sat there. Chris sat next to me. Eventually Dylan came on the bus and seemed very confused when he saw me. I put headphones in while Chris and Dylan talked. I couldn't help it. I played My Immortal on replay. I gazed out the window. I had no idea where we were going or what house I was going to. I kept thinking about the deaths and started to cry. Chris wiped away the tears and put a hand on my shoulder. He silently said it will be alright.
The bus turned into a place called Spring Hollow. It was a larger development. Chris tugged on my sweat shirt sleeve. I got up and followed him off the bus. Dylan and what must have been his older brother got off too. He lead me to my house. Our houses were extremly close. Only a yard seperated the yards.
"See you later," he said and ran off to his house.
I timidly walked up to the door. I knocked and it opened. I walked in.
"Hello?" I called. No response. "Hello?"
I walked around and saw nothing and no one. Abruptly I felt arms around my waist. I gasped and felt them pull me close.
